Character

Name: Roisin Mairead Duffy, but she claims her last name is Murphy. (First name is pronounced Ro-SHEEN, hence her nickname of Rosh--most people don't really pronounce it right and she got lazy. Murphy is like the last name Smith in Ireland, rather common.)
Canon: OC
Canon point: A few days before her intended shop, Pi, is due to open.
Age: 27

Canon history: There are a myriad number of TV shows and books that sort of embody what I see Rosh's canon as. "Urban modern fantasy", Earth is a lot like the one we all live on currently. About the only difference is magic is real and actually exists, and any number of supernatural critters can be existing and living their lives, such as they are, out of the corner of your eye. You probably won't find a unicorn crossing your town's Main Street, but finding a vampire looking for a bite at your local dive bar is entirely likely. The local elementary school teacher COULD be a closeted werewolf teaching your kiddies, and faeries live in mounds worldwide. Think Simon R. Green's Nightside books (though the Nightside itself is in London and Rosh has never been), or the early Anita Blake: Vampire Hunter series before it went hot and heavy. There are plenty of other examples in media.

History: Roisin Duffy thought she was a fairly normal person--at least, for the first seventeen years or so of her life. Having an absent mother wasn't entirely strange, and her dad was a fairly nice fellow with a temper that he passed down to her. She had her share of completely normal troubles, was finishing her last two year of high school and setting her sights on culinary arts school with a specialization in baking, hoping to someday open her own pie shop. Pretty simple life.

Until she woke up at 17, chained and bound to a stone slab, with the man she knew as her father chanting over her. Not only did he summon a demon, he managed somehow to bind it inside of her. To say that this scared the hell out of Rosh was more than an understatement. She blacked out, waking to find herself alone, tattooed, naked, spattered with blood that wasn't hers--and most importantly, free of the chains that had bound her. The slab--an altar?--was shattered, and its fragments scattered around her. Terrified, she gathered what items she could--clothes, ready cash (this place had been in a sub-basement of her house!!) and ran like hell. She found a passport in her name, and used it--she went from Dublin to the United States on the first plane she could afford--a red-eye that would get her to New York as soon as possible. She was worried--so far, the demon seemed content to watch and observe what she'd do, but Rosh could hear its laughter in her head and knew that it was only a matter of time before disaster struck.

Her next decade was spent in a sad, specific little pattern: go from city to city, devouring books that she thought might help her in libraries. Catching showers in the YMCA and other places that catered to drifters like her. Taking odd jobs where she could--and if Rosh could work in a bakery? So much the better. A lot of things had happened to her (or, really, one very big thing), but Roisin absolutely refused to give up on her dream of owning her own bakery and selling pies.
In this fashion, Rosh slowly made her way cross-country. Around Chicago, she was taken in by a mendicant friar by the name of Father Ildephonse for a time. The old man kept the demon at bay by his sheer devotion to Jesus and Mary, and while Roisin herself was uncertain about it all, she could hardly argue with his results. He gave her a blessed medal of St. Peter the Apostle when she told him of her dreams of owning her own bakery. Father IldieĀ asked nothing of Rosh but for her to pray for him (a difficult thing at best, between Roisin's own anger at a God she viewed as not helping her, and the very irritated and resistant demon trapped inside her), and to consider charitable acts when she could. (That is one reason why her dream of Pi, her pie bakery, involves a charity that gives unsold pies to homeless shelters, to feed those who normally couldn't afford to buy her products.) Rosh was forced to move on when the friar grew ill, and she still is uncertain of his status--she can only pray that he still lives.

Currently, she's mostly managed to cobble bits and snippets of magic and mystical protections that her 'father' started with the tattoos he imprisoned the demon--the Great President of Hell, Haagenti, according to Ars Goetia--to keep him imprisoned inside her and not make attempts to break out. They're painful to say the least, and generally leave her battered, bruised, and exhausted. She'd managed to make her way out of Chicago with a small nest egg. Upon arriving in St. Louis, she'd managed to acquire a small piece of storefront property on a shabbier side of the riverfront, and was making preparations to actually open her bakery in a few days--which is when she'll find herself on the grounds of Diatu Magicademy.

Personality:

Clever: Having a demon shoved willy nilly into her head without a "by your leave" has made Rosh into a quick thinker. It's not the easiest to outsmart a literal demon with millennia of experience--and she has definitely not always come out on top--but someone of a lesser intellect would have become a thrall, or worse, and she is decidedly not that.

Snarky: Dealing with said demon has given Rosh an...unusual outlook on life and sense of humor, to say the very least. She can have a bit of a sharp tongue to say the least, and also can be quick with a comeback. It isn't always meant to be cruel--she generally isn't, but she is more than a little acerbic.

A loner: Roisin tends to hold herself apart from others, unless there's a lot of coaxing. She's not cruel, as was previously mentioned--but she can be averse to friendly overtures and definitely acts as if she has little use for such things. This doesn't come naturally to her, but it's a defense mechanism. After all, if she's not close to anyone, there are fewer people to be harmed if the Great President of Hell who lives in her head comes to the fore.

Blunt: Generally everyone knows where they stand with Roisin, because she'll tell them. She wasn't the type to obfuscate or mince words even before a demon possessed her, and now that she's got something that will do its absolute best to twist her words or negotiate if she slips up? She has doubled down on speaking as plainly as she can.

Tenacious: (this is not the greatest band in the world, this is just a tribute) Some people, upon finding themselves bound unwillingly to a demon, would simply submit and become a thrall. Instead of passively accepting her new reality when it happened, Rosh did her best to throw off the bonds both mental and physical, and continues to fight against what's happened to her.

Always Keep In Mind: Despite her strong will, Rosh is still in a daily fight against the powerful and ancient demon Haagenti, and she's doing it with one arm tied behind her back, so to speak. She resists to the best of her ability, and has no illusions about the fact she needs help, but she's also likely to push the people willing to help her away for their own protection, and no thought for herself.

Samples

Log Sample: arse deep in alligators and it only tastes like Preparation H if you eat it, buddy...

Questions: Write an IC answer to the following questions:

What do you want to study at Diatu Magicademy? How tae get my rider outta my head. So what've ye got about demons?

If you knew you could go back to the moment you left, would you leave immediately or continue your studies for a while? I'd continue my studies until it was only me goin' back.

If your enemy was at Diatu Magicademy, how would you react? He is here, so I dinna know what ta say. Act as I always have. 'Less he suddenly stops being imprisoned inside me, aye?

When is it acceptable to resolve a dispute by force? If ye're resolvin' it by force, ye're nae really resolvin' it now, are ye? Yer batterin' someone down tae get yer way.

What should the supreme goal of any wizard be? I'm a baker, not a wizard. I'm nae really sure. Can we come back tae this one? Okay, fine. Responsibility. Ye got great power, ye ought tae not blast it about without thinkin' about what ye're doin' an' puttin' other lives in danger. Oh, they may nae be innocent, but ye got say, an entirely normal merchant or farmer, and ye wavin' yer great magical dick about means they lose their livelihood for ye tae get yer jollies? That's wrong. Don't do that.

Special Considerations

Your Special Something: A rare familiar. Hopefully one to help her with her tenant, please!

Rank Your House Choice: Random

Items: A small golden medal of St. Peter the Apostle. The Greater Seal of King Solomon, his signet ring (used against Haagenti in the past.) A battered collegiate five-subject notebook that contains mostly recipes for pie, but also notes on her condition.

Anything Else: I know I'm playing someone potentially Problematic, but I don't plan to abruptly have a demon running amok in Diatu unless it's part of a mod approved storyline. Thanks for your consideration, mods! If there are any questions, I'd be more than happy to answer them.

Long story short: Roisin is possessed.

She likes to bake pies and is working on opening her own business for both fresh and take-and-bake pies. She intends to call it Pi--no, not terribly imaginative, but it's an easy way to celebrate 3/14 every year.

She's well covered in tattoos and has a pair of very elaborate chain bracelets that she wears on both wrists.

Vivid and colorful, most of the tattoos are nothing special. It's the blackwork that binds the demon, though her playful tattoos are also forged from enchanted ink to keep the creature bound to her. Roisin is its prison, after all.

The demon Rosh is possessed by is Haagenti, a Great President of Hell. Let's just say she's very freaked out by this and doesn't really understand just how her parents managed this--not that her mother was ever around to tell her. And her dad wasn't talking, either. It still doesn't give her any amount of power or wealth, as she's not a conjurer, she's a prison.

Though Haagenti can whisper to her...
